  The final list. The Album of the Year 2022 list.  Personally, it's been a very tough year, with terrible events, very hard moments, battles, and changes.  Musically it's been a mediocre year. I bearly compiled this present list, featuring the albums that I liked the most and listened to the most. It's based on emotions, as usual. Some of the names are pretty clear - if you are following me on social media, you know. For the others, I had to look deep back at the previous months' lists and memories, and consider whether I liked them really, to what extent, or whether I had preferred something else. It's been an abundant year in terms of releases. Quantity, not quality. No real stand-out albums that leave a solid impression and will last in time. You all know my bragging, so no change.   Another useless list here. I published my  Black Metal top list for 2022  featuring 42 names, so this time I present you the best of 2022 death metal albums. For the sake of consistency, I did it with 42 names again. These are the DM releases that made me the best impression and/or I liked the most. Frankly speaking the death metal in 2022 wasn't that exciting at all. A lot of stuff out there but not memorable.  As usual, the below 42 are not in a particular order. Overall it is a solid list but not really sure how many I'm going to take into 2023 onwards with me. Because another pile of new stuff is coming and we'll be buried under the new schedule. And compared to the klassiks, almost zero of the new stuff has the power even to try to attempt what I really love from the past...You know what I mean. I decided to do this post in a lazy way. I used the app everybody is using these days in order to make the collage and the list respectively. Honestly, I didn't have the intention to publish any list - neither BM/DM, nor AOTY.  I have always stated - in general, it's been a mediocre year for my beloved music, with few releases that really have the staying power. Therefore it is not easy to pick equally good/bad albums... As usual, I'm listing the albums that I enjoyed the most and that I listened to the most in this already-gone year. Most of the releases were part of my monthly tops throughout 2022 on this blog.  Remember, the list is not in a particular order, however, I have a softer spot for some of the releases than for others. Listing my favorite BM albums wasn't an easy task for another reason - the mixing of the genres these days. I tried to put in this list BM albums that are closest to the understanding of the genre, so names like White Ward, D666, Goatwhore,

Basically, it is my last monthly top list for 2022. Next, it would be the AOTY list, if there is any need for such a list anymore. Do we need an AOTY list when almost everything is fast food? For me 2022 was NOT a good year for my beloved music but rather mediocre. Too many albums were released with very arguable quality and staying power close to none.

A huge pile to choose from for my top list this October. But overall the month was not so much inspiring and the better albums immediately popped up in my mind. As always I am not sure how many of those below twenty will stay with me longer, but there are definitely some very good releases. As usual, I placed here what I really enjoyed during the past thirty days, and most probably with time I am going to find out that I overlooked an album.

Well, this time I'm going to leave here most of the albums I really liked from the enormous September'22 release schedule. It's been an intense and hectic month in all aspects, including new albums. And I can say there was quality. September gave us plenty of very good releases.

August was a weak month. Many new albums went out but in general, the quality was intimidating for me. I managed to select a small list here of what I liked the most, and a few surprises popped up actually. Is it kvlt being unkvlt now??? The below list is super strong in my opinion. It definitely represents the better albums in this moment of time. I know a small selection of special albums out of the below twenty will land high on my AOTY list in the end of the year. Others will be lost in oblivion. I know.

Here we are again - my little (elitist? nah, absolutely not!) selection of albums that left me a solid impression from the needlessly huge pile of releases during the given month. I won't repeat again and again what I say every time about quantity and quality. For me July'22 was a mediocre month but now looking at this present list here, I find it somewhat a solid one. I'm sure there are some more solid albums that I left in my notes, but they are now into the grinder and I guess I won't return to them anymore. Another month will come, other hundreds will arrive, and there is no time to go back for the forgotten ones. I hate this spiral! The list below includes a number of titles that go straight into my AOTY list too. Like my album of the month, that is Greg Puciato's Mirrorcell. The first half of 2022 is gone. I still hope my distinguished readers bear with me and find my lists usable rather than useless... Why am I still doing these? I really don't know but they give a momentary picture in time and serve as a good reminder.

I always write the same in these intros. Too much new realease, not enough quality, dificult to pick the real standouts. May 2022 didn't differ from the status quo. Plenty of death metal.  From the below list, probably very few are going to take higher rankings in my end of year AOTY list.

A very solid month, with tons of new albums and some very good albums that will go straight into my AOTY list. Some of my all-time favorite bands released fantastic music. Well, my list below includes more or less the obvious. Not surprisingly. Naturally, my shortlist was much longer, but I had to pick the best of the best and just stop at a certain point.  I noticed the trend that my lists are becoming more and more mainstream, but I just pick what I really like and listen to the most over the month.

March 2022 was a very solid month. Tons of new releases, and at least 25 very good albums. I feel many of them will stay longer with me and will land on my AOTY list. I found a good time with these. Below I give you my selection of the finest albums of March - in total 25 incl mandatory honorable mentions. This could easily be a Top 25 actually...

February brought us a lot of music and WAR. I must admit that I listened to a lot of old/klassik albums rather than new music in February 2022. And of course a lot of Ukranian black metal. From each crazy week with releases there were 3-4 albums that stayed with me and made it to the present list. I listed some left outs too. Sometimes the left outs grow, you know. And as usual, I always wonder what did I miss?...

2022 started. I continue here again...The year started slowly for me in terms of new releases. After the complete burnout in 2021, I was very picky in listening to new albums in January 2022, and I did prefer the older stuff.   For the below list I selected those twenty I enjoyed the most in the past month. I can tell that probably half of them I'll forget in one month's time. It might happen that an album that I missed here will grow....Anyhow, I leave these 20 here for the sake of history and as a reminder of what I've been into.  So here we go again.
