MY TOP 10 FOR MARCH 2018
March is gone. Another month from the "calendar-life". So it is time again to list down my favourite albums of the month. These are only albums released officially within this month. As usual they are 10 with 3 "bonus tracks" and a Japanese version as well, so to make another fatal list + 2. In NO particular order!
March was intense and I witnessed some very good releases, coming from popular bands as well as from the underground. Some of the artists made it to my list, others simply didn't. As always I must point out that I wasn't able to give a proper listen to all the releases. It's impossible.
Let's get down to work!
Whipstriker - Merciless Artillery
It is what it is - a merciless artillery! Speed and riffs. The title track of the album was the most rotated song for me during the month.
Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name
Honestly this was a great surprise for me. I didn't expect this album to be that excellent - full of variety, prefect technically. It is a fantastic achievement for the style in 2018. Even only for the lone romantic saxophone.
Sojourner - The Shadowed Road
This album is a journey into the past to very distant lonely magical kingdoms.
Strychnia - Into the Catacombs
Brutal, technical, melodic, the album comes and goes in under a 30 minutes. And it is played again.
Drudkh - Їм часто сниться капіж (They Often See Dreams About the Spring)
The black metal needs more such albums. Full of eternity, melancholy, loneliness, meaning - sending the listener into another dimension.
Walpurgis - Above the Stars
I found this band and album by chance. Above the stars has it all though. I highly recommend it - full of variety and ideas, mixing black metal with classic heavy metal.
Memoriam - The Silent Vigil
After the fantastic For The Fallen, this album was expected impatiently. Personally I find it weaker compared to the previous record, but still it is another solid dose of OSCDM.
Slugdge - Esoteric Melacology
This is great death metal with sludge taste, in praise of all slugs in the world. Sick!
Judas Priest - Firepower
Well, couldn't go without this album, simply because such records by such bands are becoming extinct and happen rarely. That's why this album should be observed as a stand alone and not compared to anything else by the band. The good old times are gone, the golden future is now. So for 2018 this album is fantastic example of the classic heavy metal.
Blaze Bayley - The Redemption of William Black
Blaze Bayley simply puts out exciting records full of energy and power, only to prove his ex-Iron Maiden colleagues how boring they have become, and how wrong was their decision to throw him out of the band.
Simply because of my deepest love in the good old Swedish death metal.
The Watchers - Black Abyss
Simply because this is very good stoner doom
Axel Rudi Pell - Knights Call
Simply because a very good continuation of Game of Sins

Primal Cult - Perennial Fire
Discovered in the very last moment, I had to put this album here. This is another very good melodic black metal album coming from Greece. In the very best traditions.
Mournful Congregation - The Incubus of Karma
My thoughts on this exceptional album are here - in my review for Blessed Altar Zine.
