COUNT VLAD'S TOP 50 OF 2024



Here's the final list for 2024. Looking it from the high level, it is shit, isn't it? It is a strange compilation of my top death metal albums, my top black metal albums plus some others that I liked a lot in 2024. Actually, I don't like it as a whole. This year it was all about quantity, not about quality. What will be the standing power of these albums? Are we going to forget about them in a week when the new release schedule cycle begins again? What are we going to cherish from the fast food called modern music? No memory, no purpose, just moving forward. Yes, in between these 50 (I could easily make it 100 list), few that will stand the test of time. They made a solid impression and made a good year out of 2024. A good year, not an outstanding one.  I ranted about it during the whole year, and I'll continue to do so.

These genre-centric EOTY lists make much more sense than the present AOTY list. They are much more comprehensive, and coherent and represent what I listened to predominantly in 2024.  Very few albums of other genres could penetrate into the 50 besides the usual suspects of death and black metal. Everything that I liked every month can be found on this blog, for those who are interested. Besides new music, once again I listened to a lot of klassiks. I bought a shit ton of records - new ones and klassiks. 

I have to say this again - we must be grateful that artists like Judas Priest, Saxon, The Cure, David Gilmore, and even The Black Crowes, put out such incredible records after being on stage for decades. Records that blow out every new wannabe poser artist who thinks he/she is making a piece of proper music. 

And one final thought, because I just don't want to make this one a long article - the AOTY lists/EOTY lists/monthly lists - they are all a momentary state. It's all about how you felt at this particular moment in time, what was the situation you were in, the struggle, the mood, and the environment. On a later listen you might rediscover a certain album or find it a complete shit. So it's all about personal feelings. 

Of course, once again special mentions to Marduk's Beast of Prey that is not included in the 2024 list because it is a live version of their 1999 album, and was recorded in 2015. However, it is the most intense and tight thing you will hear in 2024. It is presented in the end as a very honorable mention.

    You may not be in love with it, but I definitely did. Of all the album lists I’ve seen floating around, yours is the one that most closely aligns with mine. Ulcerate, Blood Incantation, Gigan, Replicant, Slime Lord, Black Curse and Agrypnie were all on my short list. Great work.

  It is again that time of the year when we reflect back and prepare the AOTY lists. As usual, I have a Black Metal Top List, Death Metal Top List, and AOTY List of course. And here we go! MY TOP 50 DEATH METAL ALBUMS OF 2024

I already published  MY TOP 50 BLACK METAL ALBUMS OF 2024 , so here comes the DEATH METAL of 2024! Death Metal did OK in 2024, with some really impressive releases! Now I take the opportunity to present what I listened to the most, what made me the best impression, and what I spent most time with during this already gone worthless year.  After careful consideration, ULCERATE's cutting throats album took the highest spot. The severe competition came from Absolute Elsewhere which is super close behind. I'll keep on listening to these two in the future. And not only that. The whole list consists of very good albums that have the potential to stay a bit longer than usual. Let's see.
