In Solitude: COUNT VLAD'S ULTIMATE 2021 LIST
Another year went by. Too fast, right? Despite all the challenges and odd times we are living, life just passes by inevitably…In solitude.
“…everyone, everyday, everything has to end”
The music has been with me through the whole year as usual. I bought too many physical releases again and tried to follow as many as possible new releases. And the new releases were extraordinary much. I mean we had 12 months with 400 releases per month! From my understanding, this is not normal. The quantity does not mean quality, and many albums could be missed, or underappreciated in the rush to listen to everything possible out there.
The year was solid, but for sure it was the first weaker one compared to every other year from the 2014-2020 period. The new albums could easily be qualified from bad to mediocre to very good/excellent, but did we really have modern klassiks? I don’t’ think so. Probably 98% of the albums don’t have big staying power… As I used to say, all new releases were equally bad…
I listened to quite a lot of those new releases this year. If we say we had 400 per month, then 4800 for the whole year! I probably checked around 20% of the total. Music is a personal experisce (so are the lists), so listening in solitude is the way to feel it. I definitely needed more solitude and time for music in 2021 though.
In all these circumstances I tried to prepare my AOTY list. Yes, I had some albums that I really liked and they represent the upper part of the list. Usually, I am able to prepare a top 100 list, and separate top lists for death metal and black metal. However this time I did a top 50 and another 100 albums randomly listed. In the preparation process, I was considering what I listened to the most, what I loved and what potentially I’ll keep on listening to in the future. (Just remember that 2022 is spelled 2020 too...) What is going to stay. So the below 50 are what I really loved, and the rest 100 - what I really liked, those that were with me quite often as well and gave me good times and joy. Of course, as mentioned, there were more that I listened to but I didn't include them here. And I probably missed or forgot something in the lists below, as well.
Of course, if you want to follow most of the stuff I was intrigued with or what I considered the best monthly releases, you can always check the posts on this blog. Right now I give you my AOTY list from 50 to 1, and then some more! Apologies for some shitty parts in the formatting - I do hate Blogger! It is absolutely user-unfriendly and gives hard times for simple actions…
Have a great time with the lists and the collages, and don't lose patience to reach the end of this long post!
