MY TOP 15 FOR SEPTEMBER 2019
What a month! Basically, September started not that strong but then it went out glorious. All albums in the below list deserve high positions in any AOTY list. So let's cut the long story short and present you my favorite 15 choices, released in September. In no particular order.
BLUT AUS NORD - Hallucinogen
Release Date: 20 September/18 October
The new direction the band took seems to be the very right one. I'm very excited about this album!
What a black metal!!! Glorious!
CULT OF LUNA - A Dawn To Fear
Release Date: 20 September
Is this the best CoL album up to date? Despite all the great music they released so far, it is their best imo.
URN - Iron Will of Power
Release Date: 20 September
Haunted is among the best tracks of 2019. "When something is good and works well - do not change it". That's why this is another great album by URN.
BORKNAGAR - True North
Release Date: 27 September
The best Borknagar to date? I was totally blown away by the quality of this record, all the compositions, and the hitting melodies. The vocals are outstanding naturally.
WHITE WARD - Love Exchange Failure
Release Date: 20 September
Black metal and smooth jazz into one. An extraordinary combination providing a unique experience.
10/10 in my review for Blessed Altar Zine here.
MGŁA - Age of Excuse
Release Date: 2 September
Whatever high praise we say about MGLA, it is not enough. The new album is a grower. Of course, it can't top EIF but it is another bulk of hypnotic waves coming to strand the mind...
MIZMOR - Cairn
Release Date: 6 September
It is strange. "Cairn" does not carry something that special, and yet I liked it.
COFFINS - Beyond The Circular Demise
Release Date: 20 September
heavy OSDM, good AF! Early Autopsy meets early Six Feet Under? The veteran Japanese squad is crushing it!
ASAGRAUM - Dawn of Infinite Fire
Release Date: 13 September
Loved the record since first listen somewhere in early August. There is a lot happening into the album, although the ladies don't reinvent the wheel. I like the direction Obscura is taking her band to.
HAUNTER - Sacramental Death Qualia
Release Date: 13 September
Misanthropic and hallucinatory death metal!
SEMPITERNAL DUSK - Cenotaph of Defectuous Creation
Release Date: 27 September
Portland, Oregon, delivers another superb death metal record! Just right into the lines of the biggest names of the scene!
ISON - Inner Space
Release Date: 25 August/3 September
Intimate, personal, dusky. My review here
OSSOMANCER - Artes Magickae
Release Date: 18 September
Mystical Black metal delivered under the pale moonlight. Occult, melodic, ritualistic.
OPETH - In Cauda Venenum
Release Date: 27 September
Of course, OPETH are into this list. The new record is prog AF but very enjoyable. I'm sure lots of details are about to be discovered.
NETHERBIRD - Into The Vast Uncharted
Release Date: 27 September
Holy FKN hell! Among THE BEST Black Metal albums released in 2019!!! They gave us something big with their previous album, promising a lot, and now they delivered!
NIGHTFELL - A Sanity Deranged
Release Date: 13 September
Another Portland death metal act. You know what to expect.
EREB ALTOR - Järtecken
Release Date: 23 September
The fantastic new album by the Swedes! Must-listen.
