MY TOP 20 FOR OCTOBER 2019

Another excellent month for metal music, full of new releases. It was a busy month for me but somehow I managed to get familiar with most of the new albums. Naturally, the heavy devastating tunes prevail on my list - so another 20 to consider for the AOTY list. Let's go, in no particular order.


ALCEST - Spiritual Instinct
Release Date: 25 October

The glorious new album by the duo. Always on the edge between mesmerizing black, shoegaze, and sadness...



TEITANBLOOD - The Baneful Choir
Release Date: 18 October

 This is how the HELL sounds and makes you feel.


MAYHEM - Daemon
Release Date: 25 October

 The best Mayhem record after DMDS.  This is how Mayhem should have sounded through all these years!
VACIVUS - Annihilism
Release Date: 25 October

Heavy AF death metal. Top-notch ranking along with the finest from the contemporary in the genre for 2019.



VASTUM - Official Purge
Release Date: 25 October

 One of those DM releases of the year...

AEGRUS - In Manus Satanas
Release Date: 1 October

Misanthropic, cold, hateful, Aegrus are delivering again great Finish BM!
INSOMNIUM - Heart Like A Grave
Release Date: 4 October

 I didn't believe Insomnium would release so good album. Yes, I'm not a big fan of theirs, especially after seeing them live in 2018. However, this new record is excellent!
GATECREEPER - Deserted
Release Date: 4 October

 Entombed meets Dismember in 2019.

1349 - The Infernal Pathway
Release Date: 18 October

 1349 as we all love them. I got what I expected. Absolute FIRE!
ECTOPLASMA - White-Eyed Trance
Release Date: 31 October

Ectoplasma did it again. After their fantastic 2018 release, now comes "White-Eyed Trance", creating an OSDM benchmark again. My review for Blessed Altar Zine here.
VULTUR - Drowned in Gangrenous Blood
Release Date: 31 October

IN MOURNING - Garden of Storms
Release Date: 4 October

 Very enjoyable melodic death metal by the Germans.


KONKHRA - Alpha and the Omega
Release Date: 18 October

I never thought Konkhra will return that strong.




VUKARI - Aevum
Release Date: 1 October

 Hell of atmospheric black metal. Great stuff.
XOTH - Interdimensional Invocations
Release Date: 18 October

 Technical, melodic, enjoyable



PROFANE ORDER - Slave Morality
Release Date: 18 October

Brutal, bestial, suffocating.
DJEVEL - Ormer Til Armer, Maane Til Hode
Release Date: 18 October

Trve Norwegian Black Fukin' Metal!



THE GREAT OLD ONES - Cosmicism
Release Date: 25 October 

Cosmic ride. Stellar.




CLERIC - Serpent Psalms
Release Date: 25 October

OSDM of high quality. This is just crushing as in the good old times!


VERHEERER - Monolith
Release Date: 1 October

Initially, I wasn't much impressed. Then I was hit. It's not inventing the wheel, and behind the simplicity and the primordiality, a great feeling lies.







Honorable mentions? There could be some. However, the list is long enough. I definitely skipped some albums, expected to be in such lists by many. These albums just didn't convince me. Let me know your thoughts and your October choices. Cheers!

MY TOP 20 OF JANUARY 2024

The new year started with a kick in the ass. It's like 2023 never existed or everything merges in one big whole. The time is merciless. It is already the end of January and it is that time again when I usually post my favorite new releases of the respective month. January'24 could have been more inspiring, or after THAT 2023, now everything seems weaker? I do believe a lot of the below-listed albums are going to drown and I won't return much to them in the year. Still, few are going to be on my AOTY list.  What else? We have to be very grateful that in 2024 we have Saxon at full speed and they are releasing this good album. Naturally, it is my album of the month, closely followed by some very good UG releases. MY TOP 50 DEATH METAL ALBUMS OF 2024

I already published  MY TOP 50 BLACK METAL ALBUMS OF 2024 , so here comes the DEATH METAL of 2024! Death Metal did OK in 2024, with some really impressive releases! Now I take the opportunity to present what I listened to the most, what made me the best impression, and what I spent most time with during this already gone worthless year.  After careful consideration, ULCERATE's cutting throats album took the highest spot. The severe competition came from Absolute Elsewhere which is super close behind. I'll keep on listening to these two in the future. And not only that. The whole list consists of very good albums that have the potential to stay a bit longer than usual. Let's see.
