MY TOP LIST OF APRIL 2025

My notes on the new releases schedule in April 2025 featured too many new albums, and I trimmed everything down to 35 releases, which I decided to include in the present publication. I really wanted to include as many as possible. Not that there weren't more that deserved attention. The 35 below might have the chance to stay with me longer than expected. (probably until next week when another portion of new albums will flood us all 😂).

In fact, April delivered. There are some really good albums that I did enjoy. Of course, everything depends on the mood and the circumstances. There is probably something for everyone below. However, when I thought about the Album of the month, I couldn't decide on a clear favourite. My favourites over the recent years - LIK and Blood Abscission (my love for both is well-known), and even Machine Head, were potential candidates. As a huge MGLA worshiper, I listened to a lot of Varnheim. Tenebrae Aeternum blew me away during a month of listening on repeat. The new Αχέροντας threw the bomb on the very last day of the month, though! I hurried to include the album in premium positions immediately, but it might deserve even more! Many will miss this album in their monthly lists if they do so. Αχέροντας never disappoints, and this album will be among the finest BM albums in 2025.

So below is my list with the recommended albums released in April 2025, including a sentence of judgment for each record.

LIK - Necro (Bandcamp) Not better than Misanthropic Breed, but it is buzzing enjoyably!
Blood Abscission - II (Bandcamp) Not better than the debut, but still massive.
Tenebrae Aeternum - Profana Veritas (Bandcamp) Swirling in black metal dissociation
Αχέροντας - Νekyia: The Necromantic Patterns (YouTube) Dark, occult, brilliant new album
Varnheim - VOID (Bandcamp) FFO Mgła!
Machine Head - UNATØNED (Tidal) Never been a fan of MfH, how did this one crawl in me, I don't know, so no comment.

Amimia - Eigengrau (Bandcamp) Atmospheric, sorrowful, wintery.
Corrupter - Gloria in Profundis (Bandcamp), Suffocating, heavy, gem
Ghost - Skeletá (Tidal) I like it
Deserted Fear - Veins of Fire (Bandcamp) Even more melodic than before and on the edge of modern metal, but very good.
Sumerian Tombs - Age Of Eternal Night What Dimmu Borgir could have been.
Disfuneral - In Horror, Reborn (Bandcamp) Absolute massacre! Tombs vomiting dead and putridity.

Colotyphus - The End Of Journey (Bandcamp) Atmospheric AF, FFO Drudkh and Khors
Hate Forest - Against All Odds (YouTube) Black Metal Against Modern World
VenatoR - Psychodrome (Bandcamp) Rooted in the 80s, even the artwork reminds of Blackout
Zeicrydeus - La Grande Heresie (Bandcamp) Reminded me about Dungeon Serpent. Bass is sick.
Bloody Valkyria - In Our Home, Across The Fog (Bandcamp Epic, heroic, without being cheesy.
Ancient Death - Ego Dissolution (Bandcamp) Good death metal, I expected heavier stuff but it is well executed and human in a way (what?@*%3$3&)

Crypts of Despair - We Belong In The Grave (Bandcamp) I had massive hopes for this one after All Lights Swallowed but I left disappointed with the pinch of groove...
Pagan Altar - Never Quite Dead (Bandcamp) Never been a PA fan, however, I liked this album. Probably because of the production and the 80s
Bleed from Within - Zenith (Tidal) In a few lists in a row, metalcore is crawling in, but I like these albums. So appropriate for the gym as well.
Cave Sermon - Fragile Wings (Bandcamp) Post-metal avant-garde. If you are in the mood. Nor easy.
Opia - I Welcome Thee, Eternal Sleep (Bandcamp) FFO early Paradise Lost!
Tómarúm - Beyond Obsidian Euphoria (Bandcamp) Not sure why I liked it.

HEXEKRATION RITES - Misanthropic Path Of Carnal Deliverance (Bandcamp)
Dormant Ordeal - Tooth and Nail (Bandcamp) I had much higher expectations for this one as well, especially after the amazing The Grand Scheme of Things. Disappointed.
Allegaeon - The Ossuary Lens (Bandcamp) It's OK, it's OK...
Serpentes - Desert Psalms (Bandcamp) Occult BM via NoEvDia, always following.
Benediction - Ravage Of Empires (Bandcamp) It could have been better, but for the sake of nostalgia and respect to the OSDM.
Idle Heirs - Life is Violence (Bandcamp) "IDLE HEIRS have created a post-metal album that captures a certain vulnerability within its mournful sound"

Ancst - Dominion (Bandcamp) They always bring a mood.
Cancer - Inverted World (Bandcamp) Heavy as a tank, a distant reminder of Bolt Thrower
Ahamkara - The Harrow of the Lost (Bandcamp) Feat A. Lunn, FFO Panopticon
Haemorrhage - Opera Medica (Bandcamp) No sell out, gore and old school.
Lhaäd - Beyond (Bandcamp) Belgian BM of the highest order
