MY TOP LIST OF MARCH 2025

March was full of new releases by many bands. That's why, for the third month of 2025, I will give you 25 albums in my regular monthly list, plus another 8, just in case. In total 33. These deserve high attention. I praise them as the best out of the big pile of new albums coming out daily. This can't be stopped anymore, and I am super tired. Of course, it is impossible to listen to everything, no matter how hard I try (at least in the genres I prefer). A few big names didn't make my list, and for a reason.

The question is always "what is going to stay with me in the upcoming months/years? What am I taking with me, what will stay longer?" Just because the list below could have been 50 albums long, but so what?! Even many of these 30 will be forgotten, and I'll barely return to them even in the following days. Yeah, this is the time we are living in - fast food everywhere.  By the way, the list below is also a nice mix of several genres that hardly go together most of the time. Yeah, I often listen to deathcore in gym when lifting.

Drudkh easily took the award for the album of the month, but Imprurity was close too! I mean, it was recorded at Sunlight Studios by Tomas Skogsberg and mixed by Dan Swanö. It is 1991 again, and HM2 is buzz-sawing! So fkn good!

Three surprises. 1) Deafheaven: it wasn't what I expected, it is no longer poppy jolly sunny emo crap. It is a serious post-black, similar to what I love in Downfall of Gaia. 2) Wythersake - holy shit! 3) Doomsday - Power Trip has its inheritance.

...And of course, all the rest featured in this list deserve special attention.  My favourite Whipstriker, URN, NITE, Teitanblood. Everybody knows how much I enjoy these bands. Nattverd delivered the second-best black metal album after Drudkh. Period.

I am still digesting the new Imperial Triumphant, because it is more accessible and less jazzy than before, that's why. But we have Labyrinthine Heirs and Grey Aura to fix the accessibility issue. (and Sarmat put out a new EP). To be honest I expected more from Grey Aura.

Cabinet delivers a compilation of old recordings but creates a unique and sick asylum-suffocating atmosphere. Then Helvitnir, for example, features big names from the Norwegian black metal. Guiltless features members of A Storm of Light, Intronaut, Generation of Vipers and Battle of Mice, and it was released under Neurot banners. So if you are Neurosis fan, it is for you.

Since all these albums are presented here, it means they impressed me. Yeah, March was good, in fact, but again, let's wait and see what has staying power.
